I was torn between choices

1 Semester left before I'm going to graduate from College. Nowadays, I've been thinking a lot about my future. So, today, I've asked my lecturer about the field of work in Safety and Health. He is now working as a part time lecturer at my College and he's currently working at Petronas as a Safety and Health Executive.

I asked him about the gender discrimination at the workplace because last time I got this offer from the local plantation company at Sabah to work as SHO but they asked me if I'm capable enough to work with them as the company is dominated by men. They manager even said to me that why I'm choosing this field of study as it is not suitable for women?huh? I was like duh?! My lecturer said that it doesn't matter with the gender anyway.

I think I'm not going to work in the plantation industry as I've made up my mind to either work in O&G, Construction or Shipping Industry.

Next question, about my Diploma. I'm not really sure if I'm able to have a job once I graduate with only diploma in my hand. I mean, look at the market.Now, one can obtain SHO certificate from the certificate program conducted by local institution and it will  only take 1 month to have it. I wonder if I should take it or not but my lecturer said I will only wasting my time and money as my diploma is good enough that I don't need the certificate anymore but to be safe, he recommended me to further my study to a higher level which is the 1st Degree. I think I have to forget about it first due to my budget constraints TT

He also stated that Safety & Health is actually very BIG because I can have a various career prospects such as a Safety and Health officer, HSE (advisors,manager,coordinator,consultants), Industrial Hygienist,Toxicologist and so on. What matter the most is how I choose it.

So,my plan now is to get a job first and work for at least 3 years to obtain the Green book. At the same time, maybe I will further my study as a part timer at OUM. Actually, deep inside my heart, I really want to work overseas :D especially at the middle east. Why? The income is VERY good mah. Gila duit?Yes, I am. Eventho some people said that it is a very risky job but come to think of it,every job pun is very risky right? But I need to have another certificate if I want to work overseas which is the NEBOSH. Haishhh. I'm confused!

Unsafe Act While Using The Toilet

Sometimes when we're going to the public toilet/ toilet on the shopping complex, we will ALWAYS encounter this situation...

It's contaminated and dirty right and of course we're not going to sit on it. Normally, what people would do is that they're going to repeat the same action including me myself ;( before I know about this before. Who else willing sit on it?

Actually, when we squatting on the seated toilet, we actually exposed ourself to physical hazard. Why? The porcelain is basically made in China,so quality based we already know about it right?Also, the porcelain is NOT DESIGN to support our full@ concentrated body weight and it can broke up.

Precaution action:

-Don't ever squat in seated toilet.
-If you don't want contact with the toilet bowl surface, you could always cover it with tissue;
-Wash/ clean it with clean water

This is what I always do:

Squat as if you are about to sit but do not sit. Get as close to the bowl as you can, and as far back as you can but beware that your thigh can sometimes get sore ;). I think this is the easiest and safest method. At first it might be difficult and tiring but believe me, after a few times of practices,you'll get better :)

There's this one accident occur in result of the toilet seat that is broke and that women is badly injured This happened in 2006 but I still think I should share it as it is just for our general knowledge.

Assignment = Real Work Task

I think before the lecturer give their students assignment, they should give something that is really related to their work. I mean, they should give us assignment on what we will do later at the workplace. I still remember on my 1 semester the lecturer asked me to do assignment on Human Body : Lung. Of course,I'm doing it pretty neat, I even put up many pictures of the lung, tissues and so on. Now, when I think about it, isn't it funny? It's not like I'm gonna be a doctor pun. I'm only a Safety & Health Officer only.

I think the lecturer should made a assignment more like this:

"WHAT IS THE TYPE OF JOBS THAT WILL AFFECT THE WORKER/S LUNG"
